The Mahindra Thar is an off-roading capable SUV.
It gets a 2.5-litre diesel engine that belts out 105bhp and 247Nm. The power is transmitted via a five-speed manual transmission gearbox to either rear wheels or all four-wheels, depending upon the variant being chosen.
The Mahindra Thar range is available in three trim levels spread across two engine and one manual transmission options. Besides, the rugged SUV is offered with two and four wheel drivetrain system. The range topping CRDe trim underwent a facelift lately featuring vital tweaks made to the exterior and interior. Under the hood it comes with a BSIV compliant 2.5 litre engine unlike the DI variant that houses a BS III compliant unit. While the engine output remains unchanged, the new CRDe variant gets 4WD as standard.

Inside the cabin the DI variant misses out on additional features available on the CRDe trim such as new black-beige dashboard, sporty 3-pod instrument cluster, revamped centre bezel, revised AC vents, new lockable glove box, floor console with cup holders, new steering wheel, new gear knob, wider seats, new door trims and windshield demister.
Mahindra Thar Features
Dimensionally, the CRDe trim is larger and gets a handful of additional features missing on the DI variant like the sporty bumper and wheel arches, clear lens headlamps, redesigned canopy and side footsteps. Inside the cabin dual tone dashboard and multi directional AC vents are missing on the DI trim. Seating layout in both the variants is different; the CRDe trim offers space for six people and DI trim features seven seat layout.
Mahindra Thar Performance & Mileage
The ARAI rated fuel economy for the DI variant is 16km/l and for CRDe variant it is around 16.55km/l.
Mahindra Thar Wheels & Tyres
The CRDe trim gets P 235/70 R16 tubeless tyres. The 4WD version of DI features 6.00-16 NDMS tyres and the 2WD version gets 185/85 R16 tyres.
